Recent The Big Island, Hawaii vacation rental reviews

The apartment is nice and well maintained. We loved peace and quiet. Birds singing was amazing. The place is nicer and better than in the photo gallery on the site.

This condo was better stocked than most condos I have rented. Had everything we needed! Loved the access to beach (right across the street with snorkeling and surfing), grocery store less than 5 minutes away, patio and view were fantastic. Beds comfy and plenty of space. The pool and hot tub were nice too! Would stay again anytime!

Clear-Water Beaches on the Big Island

There are plenty of reasons that so many of Hawaii’s most popular beachside resorts can be found along the western coast where the crystal blue waters roll, rush, and even rage over the shimmering white sands and jagged cliffs offering must-visit destinations for surfing, swimming, and sunbathing.

In Puako, you’ll find tide pools brimming with ocean life as well as spectacular offshore sites for snorkeling and scuba diving. Additional spots offering sublime beaches include Kailua-Kona 31 miles down the coast from Puako, as well as Kapoho with its volcanically-heated tide pools, located on the opposite side of the island.

Exploring the Big Island of Hawaii

If you’re looking to hike, explore, and see unique natural features as well as sites of historic interest, start your journey walking the fascinating King’s Trail that once meandered for over 30 miles connecting the villages of Kailua and Kona in the south to Puako in the north. From here, you can view the Puako petroglyph fields boasting over 3,000 ancient drawings carved into the volcanic rock. Check out the seven historic fish ponds (also in the Puako area) and learn their fascinating history that may well date back to as early as 250 B.C.!

In the quaint community of Captain Cook, located about 12 miles south of Kailua-Kona, be sure to hike out to the Captain James Cook Monument and enjoy the panoramic ocean views. If you’re a coffee drinker, don't miss the Kona Coffee Living History Farm.

About 100 miles from Captain Cook, the historic hamlet of Honomu stands as the gateway to Akaka Falls State Park, home of Akaka Falls, a dramatic, 422-foot waterfall, surely the most famous waterfall in all of East Hawai’i! And just 50 miles from Honomu, find yourself in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, where you can hike or cycle to glowing lava flows and explore dormant lava tubes.

Modern Conveniences on the Big Island

The Big Island of Hawai’i is not just about beaches, hiking trails, and plunging waterfalls. Many guests come to enjoy the many deluxe amenities of beachside resorts, to shop in charming boutiques or waterfront malls, or to challenge the holes of a number of world famous golf courses, including the 18-hole Waikoloa Village Golf Club where you can play your way through lush greens while enjoying breathtaking views of five different volcanoes.

Whether you're visiting the award-winning, beachside resorts, golfing on some of the most beautiful golf courses in the world, or heading out to explore the lush parks and dramatic volcanoes, experience it all from one of our Big Island vacation rentals and condos!
